California Here I Come!

April 23,1969

Dear Daddy,
I saw the mountains! I can't believe how beautiful the Rockies are. It just blows me away! We hooked up with some people who live in a cabin up in the mountains and will be crashing with them for awhile. I can't wait to take a bath in a cold mountain stream! Anyway, the ride we got was speeding and the cops pulled us over. We freaked out because Jimmy and Tommy are evading the draft. (Did I tell you that?)
Anyway, we were paranoid of an ID check. Well, it didn't happen, and all is well.
California is getting closer, but I want to hang in the mountains for awhile. Don't worry, everything is cool. I will write you again soon.
Love and Peace,
Joyce

Hi Joyce,
Thank you for your comment and I can relate to
"On the road again,
Like a band of gypsies we go down the highway
Insisting that the world be turnin' our way"

my boyfriend and I hitch-hiked from Florida to California in 1974. What a trip!

wow, hard to believe when you first saw the rockies i was only 6 months old. otherwise, your blog is like a walk down memory lane. used to love my view-master, watched the mickey mouse club, captain kangaroo, and davey crocket (still catch myself singing daveeeey, davey crocket; king of the wild frontier sometimes). i´m a bit of a hippie spirit myself, living in spain at the moment. however, as you may have noticed, my blog is mainly political; conservative at that! if you´re into that kind of thing, stop by anytime. even if you´re not you´re always welcome. i´ve got a couple others there who definitely don´t share my point of view and those are usually my favorite (and most extensive) conversations. i´ve been doing a nightly (spanish time) jazz "radio" post too; if you´re interested. thanks for friending me on blog catalog, i´ll return the favor and take it a step further and follow your blog. absloutely don´t feel obligated to do the same, but if you´d like, you´re more than welcome.
cheers!

Thank you for adding me as one boomer to another. There is no mistake that I carry the hippie days with me. I still listen to Rock & roll - still love long hair on a guy and know better than I use to. I love your blog - Oh, I hitch-hiked - scared me to death!
